HERE’S WHAT’S NEW IN REUSE THIS MONTH:

Sunscreen in a Metal Tube!

Finally, a plastic-free sunscreen options in a tube! Sunscreen in a metal tube is easy to apply and much easier on the planet! A metal tube is a great option for storing sunscreen due to its durability and recyclability. Unlike plastic, they can be easily recycled and reused. They also keep sunscreen fresh, prevent leakage or spillage, and provide an easy way to dispense it without creating excess waste. We have found two sunscreens that come in metal tubes so far:

Refillable sunscreen applicatoR

This compact, sustainably designed sunscreen applicator can be refilled again and again, reducing plastic from buying multiple small sunscreen bottles and tubes. Buy your sunscreen in bulk and refill a Solmate reusable sunscreen applicator instead.

And it provides a convenient way to ensure you always have some sunscreen in your bag in a perfectly sized, leak-proof sunscreen holder, which is made from certified ocean-bound plastic.

New book showcases how to get sharing

Thanks for Sharing: How I Gave Up Buying and Embraced Swapping, Borrowing and Renting by Eleanor Tucker shares how sustainable sharing can save us money and lead to a happier future.

She documents her year-long experiment of buying as few new things as possible, and relying on the power of sharing, lending, renting and borrowing instead. Why this is more affordable, leads to more fulfilling lives and more sustainable is also delved into.

A microwave-safe steel reusable container?

A stainless steel reusable container that can be used in the microwave? How is that possible? According to its makers, black+blum, it is because it has been designed to be perfectly smooth and round, so it does not cause sparking.

Perfect for meal prep, these food boxes are lightweight, airtight and durable. They are also oven safe, turning them into a great multifunctional reusable that can be used for meal prep, food storage, an on-the-go lunch box, and an oven container.

These sachets are added to a bottle and mixed with water to create the skincare product, with the available products including a 2-in-1 cleaner and masque, and a foaming body wash.

World’s First Net Zero Carbon Shoe

Allbirds’ M0.0NSHOT is the world’s first net zero carbon shoe - without relying on a single carbon offset! A standard sneaker has a carbon footprint of about 14 kg CO2e. Allbirds' M0.0NSHOT has a 0.0 kg CO₂e carbon footprint.

How? Regenerative wool, a carbon-negative, sugarcane-based foam midsole with 80% bio content, and carbon-negative bioplastic eyelets made from microorganisms that convert methane into a polymer that can be moulded like plastics.

Packaging and transportation are also low impact, with biofuel powered ocean shipping and electric trucking from port to warehouse, and minimal sugarcane-derived, carbon-negative Green PE packaging used.
